Here Beside Counselling

Stephen Thomas, MC

The weight of what we’ve been through can show up many ways—in our emotions and thoughts, in our relationships, and in our bodies. It might feel like tension, exhaustion, or shutting down. It might be shame, anxiety, depression, a harsh inner critic, or patterns that leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and others. You may not always have the words for it. You just know it’s heavy.

Counselling offers a space to explore what’s been painful and work toward connection, understanding, and healing—with support. Whether you’ve had therapy before or this is your first time, you’re welcome here.

I offer emotionally focused, trauma-based therapy for adult individuals.

My work draws inspiration from models like Internal Family Systems (IFS), Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). These approaches support deeper connection—to yourself, to others, and to what matters to you.

I focus my work in complex trauma (the lasting impact of repeated abuse, neglect, or unsafe environments, often in childhood), developmental/attachment trauma (the effect of early caregiving relationships where emotional needs were not consistently and reliably met), and men’s issues (the unique challenges men face in vulnerability, identity, and relationships).

I also work with anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, shame, and addiction. You don’t need to have the full picture—or the right words—to begin. We can start with whatever feels most important to you.
